The Monthly Parish Council Meeting of Cheveley Parish Council took place at Cheveley Parish Hall on Tuesday evening 8th July 2025.

Eight Councillors were present along with our Clerk, Mrs Sally Hughes.

The minutes of the Parish Council meeting held on Tuesday 10th June 2025 were duly passed and signed by the Chair.

We were joined by District Councillor Alan Sharp and County Councillor, Jonny Edge. Five members of the public were present.

Detailed reports were given by both Jonny Edge and Alan Sharp with additional information on the new Unitary Authority proposed options within the county of Cambridgeshire.

Planning applications were discussed including the application for an ‘early years centre, childcare and training facility’ on Duchess Drive.

Much discussion took place on the proposed new Unitary Authority in Cambridgeshire with a number of points made that there are no facts or comparative figures on which to base a decision by residents.

N.B. The consultation closes on 20th July 2025.

The usual number of financial transactions were checked and approved along with the Clerk’s Monthly Report.

The Fixed Assets register will be circulated to Councillors to complete the required annual check.

Discussion has taken place with Cheveley School with a view to jointly improve parking and driver safety outside the school.

An update was received on progress with updating Cheveley Parish Council’s web site.

Repairs to the weathered stonework on the War Memorial located outside St Mary’s Church were also passed.

Approval to address the damp issue at the Parish Hall and improvements to accessible facilities at the Pavilion were decided, starting as soon as is practical.

It was agreed to allow easier access to the defibrillator at the Parish Hall to save time in an emergency.

A proposal to put a name sign on the Parish Hall to make it easier to identify will be considered at a future meeting.

Approval was given to purchase some new card tables for the Parish Hall to replace the rickety old ones.

A meeting of the Cheveley Pavilion and Recreation Ground Charity was also held the same evening.

Cheveley Parish Councillors are Trustees of the Charity.

The minutes of the previous meeting held on Tuesday 10th June 2025 were duly passed and signed by the Chair.

Payments and receipts were duly noted.

A suitable builder has been selected to provide accessibility access and WC facilities to the Pavilion This work will take place later in the year.

Additional security measures will be added to the new vehicle gate at the Recreation Ground.

Repairs to the fence surrounding the Car Park at the Recreation Ground were approved.

The future date of both the meetings above will be on Tuesday 12th August 2025.
